picture me {im}perfectly.all the muck

i’m doing a summer Bible study
with some of my dearest friends
(including my sister).
and it has been even more incredible
than i would have
or could have
imagined.

we are studying
Beth Moore’s
James, Mercy Triumphs.
and people, it’s rocking my world.

in the latest lesson,
Beth talks about bringing her heaps of
muck and mess
and laying them before the throne of Jesus.
and you know what?
i was so convicted
that i am keeping my mess from Him.
i just keep thinking
that if i can just get
this straightened out
or that straightened out,
then oh yes,
then i will be able to be fully present
and do what He has called me to do.

and instead,
i need to heap up all the junk into a big pile before Him
and let Him transform it
into something that glorifies Him.

take a look at Jen’s sweet post.

picture me {im}perfectly.everything at once

are you anything like me?
i want to do everything.
all at once.
right now.

i want a clean house.
i want to prepare healthy meals.
i want to be that fun mom
with never ending energy
and an activity and
all its necessary supplies at hand.
i want to be fully present.
at all times.
and have already worked out
and read the Bible
by the time my children rise.

but i am none of those things right now.
so there you have it.
me.
the real me.

p.s. how delicious is my new photo student?

picture me {im}perfectly.snapping

sometimes i suspect
i’ve somehow accidentally
entered into some sort of study.

like when you are stuck in the exam room,
waiting for a doctor
for way too long
and you begin to wonder if
they know you’re there.
waiting.
or maybe it’s some sort of study
to see how long it will take you to snap.
oh, you haven’t ever been in an experience like that before?
lucky you.

i have.
many a time.

and this was no exception.
we waited.
and waited.
and waited.
and waited.
for the doc to come.
but she didn’t.
but then she did.
phew.
snap-free (barely).

picture me {im}perfectly.i have this problem

so i have this problem.

i want to fit everything in
that i can.
everything.
that can possibly work.
whether it’s nearly impossible
or will be a strain
or will make us all extra tired.
i think,
“yeah, i can make that work. i can fit that in”
and that thing is not always good.
in fact, it’s never really good.

and you must read this post

picture me {im}perfectly.a thought

i do not have time
to finish a thought.
not.
one.
single.
thought.
not one fluid, complete thought.

but i’m finding that i need to
change my attitude.
instead of feeling interrupted,
i need to recognize
that when my children are in my presence,
they need me to be present.
this includes my mind.

picture me {im}perfectly.don’t ask

don’t forget to check out
my husband’s book,
DON’T MESS WITH TRAVIS
it is a hysterical read.
see what the Dallas Morning News wrote about it.

and if you want a signed copy
(say, for father’s day?!)
i can totally hook you up.
(just click on the contact tab at the top to email me.)

 and you know my sis
the one who just got married?
well, she is this fabulously creative
graphic designer and letterpresser
and she has a super cute holiday card
that she has submitted to minted.
check it out and then vote for her
(sign in first).

okay, so here’s the truth.
these days,
i am not ahead of the game.
not at all.
i’m not even slightly ahead of the game.
and when i’m not ahead of the game,
i get the worst kind of crafts:
child-directed crafts.
you probably know exactly what i am talking about.
but just in case you don’t,
here is a perfect example.

and no,
i have absolutely no idea
what this is, either.
any guesses?

and yes, it is still on my kitchen counter because
i haven’t quite figured out what to do with it
or how long it needs to sit there
before i discreetly disassemble it.

so there’s a perfect picture
as to where i am in life right now.

picture me {im}perfectly.full + heavy

my heart is full and heavy
at the same time.

the depth and breadth
of Jesus in my life right now
is so very evident to my heart.
allowing me to see
what’s actually really important.
and everything else is fading away.
those time wasters.
those goals and dreams and ideas.
all which are vanity.
fading away.

(fabulous shot taken by my sweet + most talented friend)

but these three children of mine
(how perfectly her is that bandaid?
daily i tell you.
daily.)
these three are what make my days
spin + stop.
make my heart full + heavy.
at the same time.

picture me {im}perfectly.a more complete life

before i get into today’s
picture me {im}perfectly post,
i have to announce
my husband’s new book!

if you know my husband,
you know that he’s funny.
very, very funny.
his writing is no different.
DON’T MESS WITH TRAVIS
is a hysterical novel

“…the political humor and witty dialogue in
Don’t Mess with Travis should elicit chuckles
from readers on both ends of the political spectrum.
With shades of … the novels Advise and Consent,
Primary Colors, and State of Rebellion,
Smiley’s incisive and derisive view of the political process
makes this razor-sharp debut novel
a timely and entertaining read.”
Booklist

i think we are all looking
to have a more complete life.
there are
so
so
so
many things
that i want in life.

so many things that i want to accomplish,
so many things that i want to see
so many things that i want to experience.
and i want my children to be able to
accomplish,
see and
experience
things as well.

but the question that
i need to ask myself right now is:
will that make life more complete?

and the answer is simply, no.
none of those things will make life more complete.
for you or for me.
because only He can make life more complete.
only a constantly growing,
intimate relationship with Him
will make this life more complete.

this beautiful blog post, i so loved.
[cohabitation+2011+-+all+six+-+2-5.jpg]
especially how Danice writes:
“The status of the rest of the world stands still
while a mother prays for the will of the God of Heaven
to be made real in the life of her son.
A son who was fashioned
exactly the way he was intended to be,
for the glory of the One
who loves him most.”

she also writes:
“I’m free to love my children
for who they are,
not who I want them to be.”

and this touched my heart
in regards to all of my children.
not just L.
