i’m so so sorry
for the lack of posts
the last few weeks.
i wasn’t feeling myself.
i wasn’t feeling good
or even just okay.
i felt just awful.
my heart goes out to all of you
who deal with chronic illnesses
where you just don’t feel well enough
to do anything
other than just be
and even then,
when it’s hard to just be.
but now i am back.
back to myself.
back to everything that was.
and it feels really good.
really, really good to just be.
you forget on a daily basis how wonderful
it is just to feel you in your own skin.
but then when you get back to that place,
it’s even better than you remember it being.
so for this week’s
picture me {im}perfectly post,
please accept my lack of recent posts
as the perfect opportunity to
picture me {im}perfectly.
because i am.
{im}perfect.
picture me {im}perfectly
is a weekly project to reveal

i will post a

you are not picture perfect,
your kids are not picture perfect,
your house is not picture perfect,
your crafts are not always picture perfect,
let’s
encourage,
inspire and
remind
other women
that none of us have it all together.

He stilled the storm to a whisper;
the waves of the sea were hushed.
Psalm 107:29
2426. the most perfect egg sandwich
2427. a husband who totally and completely gets me
2428. a new restaurant
2429. the kids in bed very early
2430. a smaller to do list pile
sometimes things in my life
seem so big
and so uncontrollable
that i have no choice
whatsoever
but to look to God
to lead me
and guide me
and give me His strength
and His wisdom
and His perfect peace
to get through it.
and i know that he does that on purpose.
because i am either going to be crushed
or i will cling to Him.
it’s up to me.
but God is so good.
even in those really tough times.
He’s moving.
in my life right this second.
this second.
and this one, too.
He’s using people around me
to let me know that He is here.
that He knows.
because He does.
and He sees.
and how He loves me
(how He loves us all).
He wants me to turn toward Him.
Him.
and nothing else.
ask Him to show you His love.
and He will
show you
every time.
in ways never expected.
but it’s beautiful.
and life changing.
and I can’t imagine
going through this life,
this sometimes tough, relentless life
without Him by my side.
and neither should you.

For you were once darkness,
but now you are light in the Lord.
Live as children of light
Ephesians 5:8

2408. so many drawings

i challenge you to
picture yourself {im}perfectly
this week and link up your blog post.
show others that it’s not all about
always showing ourselves in the best light.
but it’s more important to reveal truth in our lives.
sometimes i forget
that the ultimate goal for this life
isn’t about comfort.
sometimes i find myself longing for
quieter, more peaceful times
(that don’t exist
anywhere near my life right now).
times where i can
leisurely go and get a cup of coffee.
or read a book that isn’t about parenting or IEPs.
or sit for a moment to collect my thoughts.
or times when i won’t be so utterly and completely
dependent on God
in every single aspect of my life.
all the time.
often,
too,
too often,
my focus flows into
getting through this time
or that time
rather than just being in those times.
fully in those times.
seeking Him
and His purpose
for my life.
focusing my eyes on Him
who gives me strength.
and all the while being grateful
that i am going through
this or that
because it is solely through those times
that my relationship with Him
grows stronger.
and sometimes i forget that the ultimate goal in life
is
to be fully
and utterly
and so very completely
dependent on Him.

I can do everything
through him
who gives me strength.
Philippians 4:13
2391. reminders
2392. a cloudy day
2393. reading books outside with the kids
2394. late nappers
2395. being hungry for lunch
so i had this {great} idea
to paint on our glass dining room table.
actually paint on it.
and not on paper.
it was awesome for like a second.
but then the bigs poured extra paint
and L started to eat it
and then it was just a ginormous mess
that i had asked for.
oh goodness.
so then i lost my patience
and told everyone to freeze
and tried to get the paint out of L’s happy mouth
and get the quickly drying paint all wiped up
and blah blah blah
it was not pretty.
(well, maybe the paint was pretty
but it wasn’t there long enough
for anyone to notice.)
and then while i was huffing and puffing
and cleaning up the mess,
little miss K drew a picture.
of me.
and it wasn’t pretty either.
oh my goodness.
i do believe i looked that awful
while huffing and puffing.
see, things aren’t always dreamy around here.

I guide you in the way of wisdom
and lead you along straight paths.
When you walk, your steps will not be hampered;
when you run, you will not stumble.
Proverbs 4:11-12
2376. a found sister
2377. new art class
2378. hidden works of art
2379. the littles being so very patient
2380. that the post office was somehow still open
sometimes my mind is consumed.
right now, it is
in regards to L’s new school situation.
it is in my thoughts.
at all times.
i’m praying for the Lord’s wisdom
to guide and lead us.
and i know that He will.
i just need to wait on Him.
i pray also that He would be glorified in it.
all of it.
the messy parts,
the wonderful parts.
so right now, i wait.
and turn the all-consuming thoughts
into prayers to Him.

If you had responded to my rebuke,
I would have poured out my heart to you
and made my thoughts known to you.
Proverbs1:23
2366. the perfect back to school night hours
2367. early-out tuesdays
2368. windows down in the car
2369. knowing God’s going to do something in friends’ lives
2370. a lovely green dress
just like everyone else,
i get burned out.
especially by the time the weekend rolls around.
i feel so physically and mentally done
by saturday morning
that it’s hard to keep going.
to keep trudging.
always heading onward.
at this wild pace.
sometimes i just can’t do it any more.
sometimes my body just breaks down.
and sometimes my mind just breaks down.
and i have a forced break.
the kind that nobody planned for.
that was definitely not
in the minute-by-minute schedule.
i just want to make sure that all of you know
that this happens to me.
because i am a normal person
who gets really, really worn out sometimes.

O God, you are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
my soul thirsts for you,

in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.

2353. pushing the kids on the swings

my mother-in-law is the sweetest thing.
she is just about the nicest person you have ever met.
and do you know what she asked me recently?
she saw this photo of my laundry
and she said
“did you stage your laundry to look that bad for your blog?”
oh dear.
no, unfortunately this is my life.
my real life.
she really is the sweetest thing.
just a reminder to picture me {im}perfectly!

A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the Lord delivers him from them all;

2333. being forced to rest upon Him
2334. dream dinners (seriously, a must)
2335. the slightest breeze
are you like me?
do you ever get confused about
what you are supposed to be doing?
about what is most important?
about what the priority is?
i sometimes get confused about
what my main priority is.
it isn’t to create the cutest things or
make the greatest meals on earth
or to check things off of my to-do pile.
it is to be present.
today.
right now.
to see the blessings that God
has poured over every single ounce of my life
and to teach my children
about His saving grace.
and share that saving grace with others.
because we all need to be saved.
we can’t do this life by ourselves.
no way.
that’s all.
that’s all that i need to be focused on.
that’s it.
that is what is most important.
He is what is most important.

i often think
that life would be
much,
much
better
when it is
clean and
organized and
not at all a mess.
unfortunately, mine is never not any of those things.
and it’s won’t ever be without them.
so don’t you ever
(not even for a second)
think that my life is
clean and
organized and
not at all a mess.
